Decision Architecture: publication history of BC-DS's work

Decision Architecture: publication history of BC-DS's work on the decision architecture discipline

Business Consultants for Digital Solutions, LLC (BC-DS), Rockville, Maryland.

This page records how BC-DS has published its work on the decision architecture discipline. It covers the framework papers by Monica M. Hernandez and Daniel A. Montero, and Monica M. Hernandez's articles and posts in English and Spanish, on LinkedIn and in PM World Journal. For each piece it gives the date and where anyone can check it. It records the publications of BC-DS and its two authors only. It makes no claim about who first used the words "decision architecture" or "arquitectura de decisiones", or about anyone else's use of them.

All times are given in UTC, with Rockville time beside them.

On Zenodo, then on SSRN

Each paper was published first on Zenodo, with a DOI, and then listed on SSRN, whose record carries the Zenodo DOI. The date given for each paper is its date on Zenodo. That date is not always the day of the upload, so the moment of each upload is given beside it.

The terms in these documents

These documents use the terms "decision architecture", "Decision Architect" and "decision architecture discipline" in public, at the dates proved above. Each quotation is exact, and each source is linked at the commit that first published it.

Term Earliest use in these documents Quotation
decision architecture BDA v1.00, 26 February 2026 (PDF) "Organizations began treating AI as the transformation itself, when AI was an accelerant that made sound decision architecture more urgent, not less."
Decision Architect BDA v1.00, 26 February 2026 (the same PDF) Its Part Seven is headed "The Decision Architect and the Business Decision Architect", and one of its sections "The Decision Architect: An Open Role".
decision architecture discipline SDA v1.0, 31 March 2026, 01:21 UTC (30 March, 21:21 Rockville) (text) "The SDA is published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License as part of BC-DS's commitment to an open decision architecture discipline."

On 17 March 2026, in the BDA v2 text it first published (commit 50578cd), BC-DS wrote:

BC-DS explicitly disclaims exclusive rights to the following terms, which are dedicated to the public as open disciplinary concepts. Any individual or organization may use these freely in the practice, teaching, or development of Business Decision Architecture:

The terms it lists include Business Decision Architecture (BDA), as an "Open disciplinary term", and Business Decision Architect / Decision Architect, as an "Open professional title". The same passage is in the BDA v2.1 PDF of 3 April 2026.

These quotations record BC-DS's own public use of the terms. They do not claim that BC-DS was the first to use them.

Articles and posts by Monica M. Hernandez

Monica M. Hernandez, an author of the papers above, has also written about decision architecture on LinkedIn, in English and Spanish, and in PM World Journal. The table lists each piece that uses one of the terms "decision architecture", "Decision Architect", "decision architecture discipline", "Business Decision Architecture" or "Solo Decision Architecture", or the Spanish forms "arquitectura de decisiones" and "arquitectura de decisión". Each quotation is exact.

LinkedIn prints an exact date under the byline of an article, and that date is given here as LinkedIn prints it. LinkedIn shows a post only by its age, so a post's date and time are worked out from its LinkedIn identifier, the number in its address, whose leading part counts the milliseconds since 1 January 1970 in UTC. Worked this way, the identifiers give the right date for six articles whose exact dates LinkedIn prints. Both kinds of date come from LinkedIn's own records. The account's owner can edit a piece after it is published, and LinkedIn marks an edited post without saying when, so these dates are not independent time stamps like the freetsa.org time stamps above.

Date Kind Title, or first line of the post Where What proves the date The terms, quoted

How to check

  1. The time stamps. Adobe Acrobat Reader shows each freetsa.org time stamp in its Signatures panel. The README of Daniel-ams/BDA-Framework-v-1.00 gives the fingerprints of the files and of freetsa.org's certificates.
  2. The commits. Each commit link above opens GitHub's record of it, with its date and GitHub's Verified mark.
  3. Zenodo. Each DOI opens the Zenodo record, which shows the paper's date, its version and its files with their checksums.
  4. SSRN. Each SSRN link opens the abstract page, which shows the date SSRN posted it and the Zenodo DOI.
  5. LinkedIn and PM World Journal. Each link opens the piece. An article shows its date under the byline. A post's date is worked out from the number in its address, as explained in the section on Monica M. Hernandez's articles and posts.

How this page is kept

Each new publication is added to this page as a row on the day it appears. No existing row is rewritten.

From this version on, the text of each version of this page, its file README.md, is time-stamped by freetsa.org under RFC 3161. A version cannot hold its own time stamp, so each version's stamp is added afterwards to the repository's folder timestamps/, with freetsa.org's request, reply and certificates. Each version is also saved to the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine.

To check a version without trusting BC-DS:

  1. The time stamp. Take README.md as it stands at that version's commit, and its time-stamp reply from timestamps/. The command openssl ts -verify -in reply.tsr -data README.md -CAfile cacert.pem -untrusted tsa.crt, with freetsa.org's certificates from the same folder or from freetsa.org, answers "Verification: OK" only if the text is unchanged since the stamp was made. The command openssl ts -reply -in reply.tsr -text shows the time in the stamp.
  2. The Wayback Machine. Its list of saved copies of this page shows each copy with the date the Internet Archive saved it.
